Well done to all of those students who remembered to bring in their spelling lists. Those who brought them in are really improving each week.
Also well done to those people who have started recording their reading. I mentioned to the children, even if they have lost their green book a small notebook can be used similarly.

WEEK TWO INFO:
THANK YOU!
Thanks so much to those parents that have paid for both life education AND swimming! It makes my life much easier having such an organised class.
For those that haven't yet, just a reminder that Life Education is $4 and swimming lessons are only $2 for 9 lessons! This can be paid either to me, or at the office.
Well done to those students who have been taking home maths homework and testing out their skills! There is a massive folder in class that children are able to help themselves to. It would be great if every student was doing at least one a week.
This week we are moving into writing for entertainment/narrative writing which
means the childrens creativity really gets a chance to shine. We are focusing on NATIVE TO NZ for our inquiry this term so we are looking at a range of traditional tales that have been recreated with a kiwi twist. The children are going to have their own chance to recreate a tale with kiwi links.
The children are now doing ball skills with Mrs Moffitt which will be a great help for their winter sports!
For the first two weeks of this term we are focusing on understanding who we are, and that we are all different. This theme has been reflected in Life Education and also throughout class. This week, we have been writing our own mihis. The children will be practicing these, and for those who have given permission, as long as technology and the ipad allows I should be able to upload the videos! Some children might like to also include their Iwi, Marae, Mountain and River more precisely to them as I have only stuck to basic Taupo ones. They might need some help in finding out this information.
The cold weather is well and truly here, although it warms up as the days go on. If you send your child to school with lots of clothes and wonder where they have gone, you might like to check our lost property box.
If you have any queries about your child or their progress please do not hesitate to contact me and make an appointment to meet.
Have a lovely week,
Holly.

Hello all,
Wow, what a busy few days we have had! On Monday our new member of room 15 started, his name is Jake and he is settling in well. Everyone is making him feel welcome. On Tuesday we had our first Life Education lesson with Miss Morrells friend Jude Sherning. The kids loved it, and we are learning about being different and being unique in our own way. This is transferring through into lots of our class work. Life Ed. is $4, thank you to those that have paid.
Homework is all set up ready, so this includes:
-Home readers
-Spelling (that the kids should have from last term, that needs to come back on Friday)
-Maths homework sheets
In week 5, we have swimming starting at the A.C.Baths. This has been subsidised by CONTACT and KIWISPORT MOE and it has a $2 fee per child.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can I have permission from parents for photos of children on the blog as then I can upload photos and videos. Many have returned these but some haven't which means I am very limited to uploading photos!
Each day we have been doing brain teaser puzzles, ask the kids to test out your skills!!
Thanks!
I hope you are all having a great week.

Hello!
I hope you are all making the most of your time away from school! I am sure you are doing lots of fun things with your families. I have a couple of notices for you all:
-Please remember to bring back your portfolios, also if your parents want to discuss anything they are welcome to text me and make an appointment time on 021941587.
-Last term the amount of home reading was pretty dissapointing! You all need to be taking home books each week and preferably each night. Well done to those that did some reading, especially those who clocked 50 nights in their home reader books, WOW!
-I have set up a maths homework file where the home readers are kept. I would like you to be taking home some maths work each week. It is very important we keep practising. You can take home any sheet you like the look of, though you are limited to only taking one maximum home a night. Date it, complete it, and hand it in for marking to Miss Morrell.
Parents, if you could reinforce this that would be great! Homework is not compulsary, but children should be reading each week.
Ta, enjoy the rest of your holidays!
